Shaun Ryder Of Old
It’s was New Years Eve. That buzz was in the air. It was bitter outside but we were unaware of it. We gathered, as friends and family, excited about the Upcoming Show.
I’d never seen the Happy Mondays Live and was totally psyched.
We arrived at the Academy early, to show our support for the first on. After reapplying my bright Red lipstick, we made our way up a trillion stairs to the big Room.
The Vibe was great, everyone was buzzing. That was until the support band began. The only person who looked like they were remotely enjoying their ‘music’ was not really ‘present’, if you get my meaning.
Time drifted on, we talked, we were entertained by a few wasters, while getting ever so slowly numbed, by over-priced slop that was being served as Alcoholic Refreshment.
Finally, some Real Music!
Erm…
I said “Finally some Real Music!”
The Music started.
Shaun Ryder came on at some point, with no real Presence at all. Actually, he looked utterly Bored. Maybe he should’ve got “off his tits” before coming on. At least he might’ve enjoyed himself!
They played a few of their Golden tracks but gave no love to the Audience. Who, mind you, were showing as much Love as humanely possible in the Sea of Noise, that was The Academy’s excuse for Sound. I guess they gave the Engineer the night off, only New Years Eve after all!
After playing a fairly Lame set of 50 minutes, maybe less, they packed up and walked off stage. “It’s only a ploy, they’ll be back” I said, crossing my fingers in the dark.
The Countdown to 2010 began.
10….9….8…..The crowd was electric.
7…..6….5….4……The energy was rising.
3…..2…..1….HAPPY NEW YEAR! we screamed
We jumped about and hugged our friends. before turning our attention back to the stage, ready for dancing! Only to find the Stage Guy packing up the Microphones.
No Last Song.
No Goodbye.
No Happy New Year.
No Happy Mondays.
